Chris Monsour, ’99, an AP biology teacher at Tiffin Columbian High School, has been recognized by the National Association of Biology Teachers with The Kim Foglia AP Biology Service Award.

Tiffin City Schools announced the national award – the top award an AP biology teacher can attain.

The Heidelberg University Council of Teachers of Mathematics (HUCTM) is a student affiliate of the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics. This spring, they entered their original math camp song, “The Math Git Up,” into the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) best math song competition. Out of 55 entries from across the country, Heidelberg’s song placed 5th.

“We were excited and surprised,” said Autumn Simpson, ’21, about hearing the song placed.

It was a good sign when Math Camp co-leaders and fellow education majors hosted 40 students for Collegiate Camp on campus in October. From that jumping-off point, the Math Club has soared with a variety of community and peer outreach activities designed to make math fun.

The fall semester was busy and the spring semester promises to be even busier.

Making math fun for kids

From Thailand to Tiffin, Math Camp 2019 has a group of Heidelberg students and more than 30 local fourth- and fifth-graders super excited about math.

On Saturday, March 30, 27 ‘Berg education and math majors, under the leadership of students Jenn Thayer, Noah Messerall, Lauren Nichols, Lindsey Robinson, Anna Cavanaugh and Samantha Bennet, conducted a day of fun and interactive math-related activities for the students at Noble Elementary School.
