When alumni Jim and Shay (Harter) Reese created a major scholarship, their greatest hope was to stay connected with students. On Saturday, they got their wish when they were introduced to ‘Berg senior Hannah Bilinski.
Hannah is the recipient of the Jim and Shay Harter Reese Scholarship in Memory of Rachael A. Reese. The pairing met at the first-ever Celebrating Donors & Their Scholars reception as part of Families and Fellows weekend.

Judging by the tweets and retweets, Thursday’s first official HYPE Day was a huge hit!
We loved the lead on Advertiser-Tribune reporter and ‘Berg alum Jimmy Flint’s front page story today: “Houston, Heidelberg University students have inspiration.”
The “Houston” reference came from NASA legend Capt. James Lovell, who was on campus to give the opening HYPE keynote address. He spoke that famous phrase on the Apollo 13 mission to the moon as the spaceship he was commanding experienced a near-catastrophic oxygen tank explosion two days after launch.

On Sunday, Aug. 28, nearly 400 students boarded eight buses and headed to Hocking Hills in southeastern Ohio for the first-ever HYPE First-Year Common Experience. Judging by student reaction and feedback, the trip was a great bonding experience, a way to begin to learn about ‘Berg traditions and it was a ton of fun!

This is big weekend for the Tiffin community. As the community comes together Sunday for the first-ever Patriot Day Salute in observance of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, students will give the events a strong Heidelberg flavor.
‘Berg students will participate as performers and as volunteers as the community comes together in a day-long tribute to honor all first responders: military personnel, veterans, police officers, firefighters and hospital employees in memory of lives lost on 9/11.

Just 12 short years ago, Aaron Montz sat in the audience at Opening Convocation, a new student full of really big dreams.
On Thursday, Montz ’08 was back on campus (as he frequently is) to give the Convocation address – as Tiffin’s mayor.
At age 30, he’s in his second term, having won re-election with an 85 percent margin of victory last fall. During Montz’s time in office, this distinguished young alumni has led his hometown through an unprecedented economic resurgence.
