Madeline Hines is a trailblazer. When she graduates this Sunday, she’ll be one of the first two students to receive her bachelor’s degree in exercise science.
Although she entered Heidelberg as a biology major, she switched to health and human performance shortly after. What never changed were her plans to pursue a career in the health care industry.

A dozen ‘Berg students spanning various science majors traveled to Orlando March 30-April 4 to participate in the American Chemical Society spring national conference. On Tuesday, the students gave a presentation that focused on the benefits of attending a national conference and the learning experiences they brought back to campus.

During her on-site interview for a summer internship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), junior biochemistry major Amanda Sugrue spoke in depth about her current research – a kinetic study that examined an enzyme found in beef heart. In a stroke of luck, the interviewer, Dr. Sameer Isaaq, is studying the same enzyme and the role it plays in kidney cancer.

The Heidelberg community extends big congratulations to four faculty members, who were honored for their excellence in teaching, research, commitment to the humanities and distinguished service.
The annual faculty awards were presented last Friday (Feb. 22) at a dinner with their colleagues and members of the Board of Trustees, who were on campus for their winter meetings last weekends.
