Campus community comes together for MLK Jr. Day ON!

Beginning this Sunday, Heidelberg will come together for a celebration of diversity with a weeklong series of programming of learning, understanding and development. Most of the events will be held virtually this year.

Headlining the series will be a keynote address by alumnus Elrich “Pete” Green, ’78. As a student, Pete was a larger-than-life personality, engaged in a variety of activities where he could truly make a difference. He has continued this commitment to making his community a better place throughout his life with a myriad of contributions to schools, libraries, local government, non-profits and his church. Pete received Heidelberg’s Outstanding Alumni Award in 2019. Read more about his life contributions

Pete developed this year’s MLK Jr. Day ON! theme of “History through the Lens of Race,” and will present his keynote at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18.

There will be programming each day developed around a different theme:

•    Monday, January 18 - History through the Lens of Race (Part 1)

•    Tuesday, January 19 - History through the Lens of Race (Part 2)

•    Wednesday, January 20 - Microaggressions, Privilege, and Implicit Bias

•    Thursday, January 21 - The Media & Race

•    Friday, January 22 - Heidelberg Allyship & Moving Heidelberg into Action

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee has worked hard to put together a program with great options for everyone. It’s a true collaboration with participation from students, faculty, staff and alumni. Due to COVID-19 safety and health considerations, much of the programming is available via online presentation and learning.
