“When I was a kid I used to come to the training camp practices that were open to the public every year. After practice was over, I would watch the players walk into the indoor field and so badly want to go in there and see what it was like. Little did I know I would eventually work for the Browns and literally walk through that indoor field area every single day.”

As part of Heidelberg University’s promise to provide access to a phenomenal education to all students, the offices of Admission and Financial Aid are announcing a new scholarship opportunity for incoming and current students. Starting this fall, Heidelberg will award a new Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship.

Heidelberg Theatre, still unable to perform for live audiences because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols, was committed to giving students and audiences a fun holiday experience. So the theatre students still rehearsed Elf the Musical as planned; their performances were professionally recorded on Nov. 20-21, prior to departing campus to complete the fall semester remotely at home. The show is now available to audiences to stream at home.

Erin Gorrell, ’15, wasn’t about to let a pandemic get in the way of finishing her Ph.D. at Kent State University. She had worked too hard to let that happen. With a little creativity and adaptability, she successfully completed complex research and defended her dissertation virtually in October. Now Dr. Gorrell, she was pleased that some great Heidelberg mentors celebrated with her.
We recently connected with Erin and asked about her graduate school experience, her Heidelberg foundation and her new job.

The School of Music & Theatre at Heidelberg University isn’t letting the pandemic end a long-standing holiday tradition. This year, the SMT will offer a pair of virtual performances – Sweet Alma Home for the Holidays and Elf the Musical – available to the community to brighten the season.
