Integrated Media Major Requirements

The Department of Communication and Media offers programs focusing on communication competency and media literacy, helping students to develop critical thinking, research, writing, and oral communication skills. Such skills prepare majors for advanced study in communication, as well as a wide range of professional fields, including corporate training, government relations, and human resources.

Major in Integrated Media

Required:

•  COM 101: Public Speaking and Engagement
•  COM 209: Visual Communication
•  COM 210: Sophomore Seminar
•  COM 245: Interpersonal Communication
•  COM 350: Persuasion
•  COM 411: Senior Seminar
•  MED 156: Media and Culture
•  MED 171: Digital Storytelling
•  MED 205: Media Writing
•  MED 307: Sight, Sound, and Motion
•  MED 375: Media Law and Ethics
•  MED 304: Public Relations or MED 357: Media Management
•  MED 312: Journalism or MED 313: Scriptwriting or MED 314: Advertising and Public Relations Writing
•  One Media Criticism course

Students must also complete 1-3 semester hours of practicum or internship.

Minor in Integrated Media

Required:

•  COM 350: Persuasion
•  MED 171: Digital Storytelling
•  MED 205: Media Writing
•  MED 156: Media and Culture or a Media Focus course
•  COM 209: Visual Communication or MED 307: Sight, Sound, and Motion
•  MED 304: Public Relations or MED 357: Media Management
•  MED 312: Journalism or MED 313: Scriptwriting or MED 314: Advertising and Public Relations Writing
