Professor of Spanish
Cindy Lepeley has a Ph.D. in Spanish and a Ph.D. in sociology, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition to teaching all levels of the Spanish curriculum at Heidelberg, Dr. Lepeley also teaches a course in Service Learning on the U.S/Mexico Border every year in which Heidelberg students spend a week in a Mexican immigrant community in South Texas, volunteering with a summer children's program.
When school is not in session, Dr. Lepeley devotes herself to English<>Spanish interpreting in legal settings. She is a federally certified court interpreter, holds state court interpreter certifications for Ohio and Michigan, and has worked for the Supreme Court of Ohio Language Services Program as an interpreter trainer.
In addition to the annual service learning trip to the U.S./Mexico border, Dr. Lepeley has led alternative break trips to El Salvador and Nicaragua. She also led a group of bilingual Latino students on a week-long service trip to volunteer as interpreters for pro bono attorneys working with asylum seekers in Texas.
