Every semester the John and Patricia Adams Foundation funds a lecture series that brings a powerful woman to speak on behalf of her personal and professional experience. This semester, Major General Gale Pollock graced Heidelberg University with her presence and wisdom. Major General Pollock is the first woman to serve as the acting surgeon general of the U.S. Army. A single blog post cannot do this woman justice for her success and perseverance is unsurmountable.
I was honored, among many other students, to absorb valuable advice from this phenomenal woman at her morning session, Life Lessons from Boot Camp as well as The Patricia Adams Keynote Dinner, Make Your Goals and Dreams a Reality. She spoke about the importance of teamwork and ambition from her experiences in the army while emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment. Her profound experiences touched us all. Major General Gale Pollock is a woman of immense strength and leadership. I know that I will embrace her inspiring life lessons now and in the future.
Events like The Patricia Adams Lecture Series really convey how special Heidelberg University is. At a larger collegiate institute attending a prestigious event such as PALS would be expensive and selective. However, attending the keynote dinner did not cost me anything and the experience was priceless. An opportunity like this one allows Heidelberg students to, in the words of Gale Pollock, “get out there and change the world.”
