Heidelberg's Business Case Competition class, BAE 290, is offered annually every fall semester. Ethicsist Dr. Heleana Theixos is the advisor for the group. Dr. Theixos previously helped coach Ethics Bowl teams at the University of Miami, Florida. With the generous support of the School of Business & Technology, this year's team is excited to have members with diverse majors, backgrounds and interests.
The course and team are open to all Heidelberg students, not just business majors. The skills of analyzing, researching and then arguing for ethics perspectives are useful across all disciplines.
Hundreds of students and teams across the United States and Canada compete in 11 regional Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl competitions each fall. The college teams argue and defend their moral assessment of a wide array of ethical case studies in business and professional ethics, in personal relationships and in social and political affairs. The ethical case studies are developed nationally by faculty, researchers and professionals.
Heidelberg placed fifth in the regional competition in 2017, and this year's team hopes to place as well or higher, with their sights on the national competition in Atlanta in the spring.
