Exploring the World To Make A Difference at Home For Kendall Newell, ’18 the most valuable experience he had at Heidelberg was the opportunity to travel abroad. He spent a month teaching in China one summer and a week in the Dominican Republic the spring semester. Kendall received a job offer three days after graduation. He is a third grade teacher at Dayton Public School system at Kiser PreK - 6 Elementary School. Kendall was also a member of the wrestling team, Kappa Delta Pi Education Honorary, Residence Life, Greek Life, and BergSTOP. “I really developed as a teacher because I was outside of my comfort zone. Being able to see the world beyond our borders was eye opening and changed my perspective on teaching. I feel I’m a stronger educator and this experience gives me confidence to start a career where I’ll encounter diversity in my classrooms.” Practice Makes Perfect Like all Heidelberg programs, our Education Department believes the best preparation comes from hands-on experiences. Education majors observe and teach in real classrooms 7 out of 8 semesters and have over 160 hours of practice before they start student teaching. 11
