Dr. Jiachun Hong is assistant professor of media in the Department of Communication and Media at Heidelberg University. He earned a Ph.D. degree in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University and his research interests lie at the intersection of film production, creative labor, and new media. Dr. Hong has published articles in scholarly journals such as Journal of Media Literacy Education and Chinese Journal of Communication. He is a regular presenter at conferences of the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Association of Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). His research won the Top Faculty Paper in the Cultural and Critical Division of AEJMC 2020. Dr. Hong is also an awarded media producer. He has directed and produced dozens of documentaries, talk shows, and newscast for television networks and streaming platforms since 2000. He also travelled and filmed across the globe from London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Prague, Istanbul to St. Petersburg and many other global cities. Courses Taught COM101 Explorations in Communication |
