Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration

The Clinical Counseling program provides preparation for those who wish to serve as counselors in agency/professional settings. The program has been approved by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board to meet the educational requirements for professional counselor licensure in Ohio.

Clinical mental health candidates must complete 60 semester hours in order to qualify to sit for the LPC licensure examination; to qualify to sit for the LPCC licensure examination graduates must complete 60 semester hours of coursework and 3,000 additional supervised hours. The 20 semester hours of clinical coursework includes at least one course in each of the following 5 clinical areas:

  1. Clinical psychopathology, personality, and abnormal behavior
  2. Evaluation of mental and emotional disorders
  3. Diagnosis of mental and emotional disorders
  4. Methods of intervention and prevention of mental and emotional disorders
  5. Treatment of mental and emotional disorders
School Counseling Concentration

The School Counseling program provides preparation for individuals who desire to be school counselors. Completion of the Master’s degree and the specialty examination (OAE 040) in school counseling are required by the Ohio Department of Education for school counseling licensure. Admission to the program does not require a current or prior teaching license or certificate.

School Candidates must complete a total of at least 45 semester hours in order to qualify to sit for the OAE 040 exam for Licensed Professional School Counselor licensure.
