Speech Team

Heidelberg’s Speech Team has been competing for well over 100 years and has a strong history of success. In recent years, our team has continued to win at local, state, and national tournaments. As a part of the Ohio Forensic Association, our students travel to tournaments throughout the Midwest to compete in a variety of speaking categories that include original addresses, oral interpretation, and limited preparation events.

Heidelberg’s team is composed of students from all backgrounds, majors, and experience levels. Directed by Dan Higgins, a former competitor and 30-year forensics veteran, his teams have won multiple State and National titles, including a National Champion in persuasive speaking and State Champion titles in persuasion, after dinner speaking, duo interpretation, multicultural informative, impromptu, and extemporaneous speaking.

Coach Higgins: “Students on our team love the bonding that’s created through competition, traveling together, and hard work. Heidelberg’s team is known for its positive attitude and fun they bring to every tournament.”

Former team members have gone on to work in diverse professions, including media, law, medicine, broadcasting, education, ministry, and even chemical research.
