Macbeth, mighty general of Scotland, Thane of Glamis, war hero. Lady Macbeth, Macbeth’s wife, cunning as a fox, and as venomous as a viper. Their tale tells of the complexities of human nature.
Funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man has been called family entertainment at its best. Meredith Willson's six-time, Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957. The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef.
The grassroots movement Tiffin4Peace is hosting this event. Heidelberg junior Judy Smith is coordinating this local performance.
The presentation is based on the works of clients of CROSSWAEH, a community-based correctional facility designed to reduce criminal behavior and divert felony offenders from the state prison system.
Theatre director and School of Music & Theatre students will perform dramatic interpretations of the writings, along with students performing music, reading poetry and showing their artwork around the theme "Do You See Me?"
It’ll be “Some Enchanted Evening” when the Heidelberg University Symphonic Band, along with vocal and theatre students, present favorites from Rodgers and Hammerstein in “A Grand Night for Singing” Feb. 23-24 in Gundlach Theatre. Show time both nights is 7:30 p.m.
“A Grand Night for Singing” is a musical theatre revue featuring songs from some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s lesser-known shows such as “Allegro” and “State Fair” as well as big hits from popular and beloved productions, including “Carousel,” “Oklahoma,” “The King and I,” “Cinderella” and “South Pacific.”
The one woman show, made famous by legendary actress Julie Harris, tells the life story of famous poet Emily Dickinson. The audience is invited into the world of Emily Dickinson, with all of its secrets, eccentricities and passions. In her own words, Emily says “Every town must have its local character – and that’s what I am!”
Your one chance to see this hilarious family-friendly play before the School of Music & Theatre takes it on the road in the first SMT for Young Audiences Tour.
$5 general admission, free for Heidelberg students.
