The official motto of the U.S. Coast Guard is Semper Paratus – a Latin phrase meaning "Always Ready". It’s a fitting motto, as its members are prepared and eager to respond to emergencies and the needs of local and regional communities any time, day or night. As a coast guard member, Ed Bizorik, ’10, doesn’t find it unusual to get called away in the middle of the night or to fly across several states to help in an emergency.

Nothing about the 2020 Back the Berg Golf Outing was easy. Twice postponed because of COVID-19 precautions, the event was pushed to last Sunday. The 120 golfers at the event were forced to battle wind, rain, and chilly temperatures -- turning Back the Berg into Back the Brrrrrg. Those who stuck it out, however, were rewarded with sunny skies for their final few holes.

They may be “zoomed out,” but a highly engaged group of alumni, current students and faculty took time to gather Thursday night in a Young Alumni Zoom Happy Hour, hosted by the Office of Alumni Engagement.
The Zoom gathering was the first in a series featuring different ‘Berg academic departments; this one highlighted faculty from communication and political science.

The highly touted Heidelberg University baseball program received additional accolades on Wednesday when D3baseball.com unveiled its Team of the Decade for the 2010s. Three former Student Princes were included -- Ricardo Lizcano, Andy Lowe, and Jason Lash. Lizcano and Lowe were on the first team, while Lash was an honorable mention. Heidelberg’s Archives is like a window to the past, where the institution’s history and memorabilia live. For the past 14 years, Professor Emeritus of German Dr. Bob Berg and his wife, Dorothy, have been the keepers of the Archives.
During their time as archivists, these Class of ’65 alumni made a great deal of progress in both organizing the holdings and bringing preservation processes up to date.
But, it’s time for a new chapter. Bob and Dorothy have officially retired as archivists – in Bob’s case, retired again.
