Theatre Major
What made you choose Heidelberg and when did it start to feel like home?
I chose Heidelberg because it offered personalized classes, individual instruction, and an affordable education, allowing me to graduate debt-free. It started to feel like home because my roommate was always there for me and the community that the theatre program built.
What moment at Heidelberg made you feel most proud to be a Student Prince?
I felt most proud to be a Student Prince during Homecoming weekend, there were always the most fun activities for the school and Greek Life.
What’s a class, club, or activity you joined on a whim and ended up loving?
In order to fulfill my gen-ed credit, I took History of Africa, taught by David Hogan, and not only were the class conversations really fun, but it was really interesting to dive deep into a topic that I really don't know much about. Africa is a country that is so rich in history, but is hardly talked about in my previous or current history classes.
What relationship or friendship here has meant the most to you and why?
The friendship that has meant the most to me was my roommate's friendship because she has seen me at my worst and best, where we have fought, made up, and shared a lot of our "growing up" lessons together.
What opportunity outside the classroom shaped you the most?
The opportunity that has shaped me the most was the chance within SMT to see New York and also perform there in a showcase. It gave me a glimpse of what I wanted my life to look like after college. At least a very expensive glimpse.
What is a lesson from college that you will carry with you forever?
A lesson from college that I will carry with me forever is that not everyone is meant to stay in your life forever. Some people leave peacefully, some people teach you lessons, but they are all still cheering you on from a distance.
What memory still makes you smile, no matter what?
A memory that makes me smile is when I think of my sorority sisters and our outings or Greek Olympics, where there is no stress on planning anything, just time for us to relax with each other.
What experience at Heidelberg best prepared you for your next step?
Being in shows and in production roles in the theatre department has given me the most experiential learning, by giving me opportunities to design and also advocate for myself.
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen about how to be successful at Heidelberg?
The advice I would give is to advocate for yourself, and if there is something that you want to try, even if it is not offered, go to the professor who is closest related to that thing and ask. The worst that people can say to you is no.
What are your plans following graduation?
My plans following graduation are moving to New York with my friends after saving up a little bit of money over the summer.
Finally, what’s one thing you hope never changes about Heidelberg?
One thing I hope never changes about Heidelberg is how much the faculty care about their students.
