Heidelberg University has again been recognized in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. Heidelberg was named a “Top Performer” for Social Mobility among Midwest Regional Colleges and Universities and is also listed in the top tier in U.S. News’ “Best Value” rankings.
The Social Mobility category measures how well colleges graduate students who receive federal Pell Grants, awarded primarily to those from lower-income households. The recognition is especially significant for Heidelberg, where 100 percent of students receive financial aid and many first-generation students rely on Pell support.
“Our priority is to provide access, affordability, and the resources and support that guide every student toward graduation and productive, fulfilling careers,” said President Rob Huntington. He noted that Heidelberg’s recognition as a Top Performer in Social Mobility affirms the University’s ongoing commitment to being Opportunity Makers.
“Being Opportunity Makers goes beyond simply opening doors,” he said. “It’s about walking alongside students, offering individualized support, and creating clear pathways that help them reach their full potential.”
From first-generation students to those pursuing traditional academic pathways, Heidelberg’s commitment to affordability and student success is reflected in its Fixed Tuition Guarantee, its Four-Year Graduation Guarantee, and the Owen Center for Teaching and Learning to ensure that every student has the tools, support, and opportunities they need to succeed.
Additionally, scholarships like the Choose Ohio First STEM Scholarship and the Student Prince Promise expand access and reward academic promise, making a Heidelberg education attainable for students from all backgrounds.
Provost Courtney DeMayo Pugno added, “Our rankings as a ‘Top Performer’ in Social Mobility and Best Value are the result of our investments in students’ holistic success and their hard work. From personalized advising and mentoring to academic support and experiential learning opportunities, we strive to ensure that every student — traditional, transfer, graduate, or adult learner — has the tools and guidance needed to thrive.
These rankings, Courtney said, “reflect not only our dedicated faculty and staff but also the resilience and determination of our students.”
