New Student Orientation

Orientation for all new students and their families will take place on Move-In Day in August! Orientation provides important information you need as a new student, as well as integrating you into the Heidelberg University community.

The highlight of Orientation is an immersive Services Fair, where you and your family will get to meet representatives from across campus! From Academic Affairs to Title IX and everyone in between, all of Heidelberg will be there to meet you and answer your questions.

You’ll also have a session on Student Conduct and Consequences! What does it mean to be an adult at college? Dean Chris Abrams will talk about understanding your rights (and your responsibilities) of being a Student Prince.

Finally, you’ll learn about Heidelberg’s HYPE Career Ready® program and all the amazing experiences you’ll have with HYPE.

All new students also have access to the Orientation Canvas Course starting on June 1! Orientation in Canvas has lots of important How-To videos, so you can get help getting your Health Forms submitted, learning how to register your vehicle and get a parking pass, and lots more.

Welcome Weekend

Welcome Weekend showcases Heidelberg’s many resources for academic, personal, and professional success and features activities planned just for you, the new HU student. Welcome Weekend will put you on the path to success at HU by:

  • Providing you with an opportunity to connect with the HU community, reconnect with your advisor, and establish meaningful relationships with students and faculty that will be the foundation for your academic and personal success throughout your college experience.
  • Encouraging a first-year student identity, building independence, furthering HU pride, recognizing your individual role and responsibility as a member of the HU community, and helping you develop a sense of ownership of and accountability for your college experience.
  • Allowing you to become an expert in navigating the campus while discovering the many resources available at HU. These resources meet the diverse needs of our students, and will empower you to create a successful college experience.

The Welcome Weekend schedule will be available here on May 1, and students will receive a detailed copy at Check-In & Move-In on Friday, August 18.

Some Welcome Weekend activities and events are required for all new students. We understand that some students may have conflicts and wish to be excused from some or all programming. The Office of Student Engagement may grant exemptions to students who demonstrate conflicts that are deemed sufficient to warrant an exemption. If you need to request an exemption from a mandatory Welcome Weekend event, the exemption form will be available here in May.
