Computer Science Major
What made you choose Heidelberg, and when did it start to feel like home?
Visiting on Honors Student Day played a major part in my choosing Heidelberg. Spending time in the theatre and performing in my first college show, Chicago, made it feel like home.
What moment at Heidelberg made you feel most proud to be a Student Prince?
Participating in the Heidelberg Concert Choir has been a very fulfilling experience, especially on our Spring Tours. Visiting the surrounding high schools and sharing with younger people the gift of music has always made me feel proud to be a Student Prince.
What's a class, club, or activity you joined on a whim and ended up loving?
I never planned to join Greek Life at Heidelberg, but was so glad to become a traditional member of Alpha Phi Tau. I have made many friendships through the group that I know will last a long time, and I feel a part of Heidelberg's history as a member of a group that has existed for over 100 years. Ending my senior year as the President of the group has also helped further my dedication and love for the group.
What's your best "only at Heidelberg" story?
My "only at Heidelberg" story would be participating and organizing the Krieg Turkey Bowl, where a frozen turkey was used as a bowling ball to knock down a set of toy bowling pins in the main lobby of the building. One of my favorite annual traditions in the dorms.
What relationship or friendship here has meant the most to you and why?
The friendships I have made here at Heidelberg stand out to me because they feel like relationships I have had my whole life. Especially the connections through my major and through the school of music and theatre.
What opportunity outside the classroom shaped you the most?
My employment as a Resident Assistant and Senior Resident Assistant shaped me into the leader that I am now. Both participating in and leading staff training have helped raise my confidence and taught me how to handle conflict with grace and ease.
What is a lesson from college that you will carry with you forever?
Always check your pockets for your keys before leaving your room. (A lesson I was still learning into the spring semester of my senior year)
What memory still makes you smile, no matter what?
Staying up way too late into the night playing board games and Dungeons and Dragons. Shout out to Dermot Healy and Caleb Silvia for being my fellow board game night owls for four years in a row.
What experience at Heidelberg best prepared you for your next step?
The Honors Program has helped prepare me as a curious mind and has helped broaden my understanding of topics I would have never otherwise explored within my major.
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen about how to be successful at Heidelberg?
Challenge yourself to do more than you think you can. There are far too many groups and activities happening on this campus for you to be spending all day after classes in the dorm.
What are your plans following graduation?
Pursue my Master's in Business Administration at Heidelberg University and possibly a Master's in Computer Science.
Finally, what's one thing you hope never changes about Heidelberg?
When I was first introduced to Heidelberg, I was told that regardless of what I wanted my college education to look like, I would have a hard time getting Heidelberg to tell me no. If I wanted to double major in Computer Science and Musical Theatre (my original plan for college), Heidelberg University was willing to help make it work. I hope the "student first" attitude of Heidelberg never changes.
