Management Major
What made you choose Heidelberg, and when did it start to feel like home?
For me, Heidelberg felt like home on my very first visit. I first came for football, but soon chose the Berg for its academics. The people were so welcoming between the students and professors. I never felt like I wasn't welcome.
What moment at Heidelberg made you feel most proud to be a Student Prince?
For me, it was being placed on the Dean's List for the very first time. This was important to me because it was the first time I truly felt proud of my academics.
What’s a class, club, or activity you joined on a whim and ended up loving?
For me, it was joining the Dean's Student Advisory Board for the school of business. This was a huge honor to be a part of, and I am very thankful to have been given the opportunity.
What’s your best “only at Heidelberg” story?
I think my best “only at Heidelberg” story would be traveling to Double D's food truck with my friends. Although every school might have its own local food truck, Double D makes every student or visitor feel welcome. It's also fun trying to figure out where he is going to be located in Tiffin.
What relationship or friendship here has meant the most to you and why?
I have three relationships that have developed during my time at Heidelberg. First would be Dr. Berg. She has been the greatest advisor/mentor I think a student could ever have. She always takes the time to check in with me about school and life in general. She played a huge part in my college decision. The second relationship is with my best friend, Antwan Torres. In our freshman year, there were 6 of us in our group. Over the years, the others have left to pursue other walks of life. Antwan has been there through all of it, and I can honestly say he is my brotha from anotha motha! Lastly, I am most grateful for my relationship with my beautiful girlfriend, Ashlyn. She is my partner in crime, and I am so thankful for the impact she has had on my life.
What opportunity outside the classroom shaped you the most?
Outside the classroom, I would say being a member of the football team has shaped me the most. Sports have always been important to me, and the bonds and friendships I have made. After I had to medically retire, the coaches allowed me to remain a part of the team by becoming a student coach.
What is a lesson from college that you will carry with you forever?
The biggest lesson I have learned will definitely be to make the connections and do the extra stuff. Life and careers are built on who a person knows.
What memory still makes you smile, no matter what?
A memory that still makes me smile would be when my whole friend group lived on the same floor of Krieg Hall when the rooms became solo rooms. We had a blast all year long, our sophomore year.
What experience at Heidelberg best prepared you for your next step?
I believe the experience that has best prepared me for my next steps would be my overall experience with the School of Business. Every professor has had a huge and positive impact on my life, and I feel as if they have helped guide me into the next stage of my life.
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen about how to be successful at Heidelberg?
I would say don't be afraid to do the extra stuff. If your major is hosting an event, go to it. Make friends with your professors; these are connections that will help you in the long run. Lastly, don't be afraid to have fun.
What are your plans following graduation?
My plans following graduation are to pursue my MBA come this Fall, start my career, and basically just start the next stage of my life!
Finally, what’s one thing you hope never changes about Heidelberg?
One thing I hope that never changes is the sense of community. Heidelberg is more than just a university; it's a family. A family that has each other's backs through thick and thin.
