AUSTIN, Texas - Already one of the most highly decorated student-athletes in the history of Heidelberg University Softball, senior right fielder Gabbie Stallbaum has received another major award. On Tuesday, Stallbaum was named an Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators (CSC) – becoming just the fourth 'Berg softball player to earn such accolades.
Gabbie, a native of Paulding, Ohio, was a second-team honoree, joining Jenny Coletta (2006), Ali Sayre (2013), and Mikaela Mitsch (2016) in the program's record books.
One of 33 Division III honorees, Gabbie is the lone selection from the Ohio Athletic Conference.
"Gabbie is the embodiment of everything a Heidelberg student-athlete should strive to be," said Head Softball Coach Mari Briggs. "She gave maximum effort in the classroom, on the field, and in our community."
Gabbie holds career records for home runs (31), runs (124), and walks (97). She sits in the top 10 in at-bats, batting average, RBI, hits, doubles, triples, and slugging percentage.
Additionally, Gabbie is the program's only two-time All-OAC First Team honoree and was Heidelberg's female OAC Clyde Lamb Award recipient this spring.
She becomes Heidelberg's first CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American since 2017. A medallion in her honor will be added to the Adams Academic All-American Plaza in front of Hoernemann Stadium this fall.
