Heidelberg University is excited to welcome Andrew Blazsik to the School of Business, where he will teach courses in finance with plans to help expand opportunities for students pursuing careers in these fields.
Drew brings Heidelberg a unique blend of academic excellence, business expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit. He holds multiple advanced degrees, including an MBA, MA in Economics, and MA in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo, along with professional certifications such as the Financial Modeling and Evaluation Analyst (FMVA®), Advanced Financial Management, and Capital Marketing and Securities Analyst (CMSA®). He has taught at Adrian College, Lourdes University, and the University of Toledo, while also running consulting and media projects under his brand Logos & Markets.
Teaching wasn’t always his original plan, but it quickly became his calling once he discovered how much he enjoyed helping people learn.
“I’ve always been drawn to taking something that seems intimidating, like finance or economics, and breaking it down so it’s approachable and useful. I see teaching not just as delivering content, but as mentoring, inspiring confidence, and giving students tools they can use for the rest of their lives,” Drew said.
His teaching philosophy is rooted in both his Catholic faith, which emphasizes the dignity of each person, and his mentors who modeled academic excellence and care for students. Inspired by these influences, he has developed his own Structured Immediate Method (SIM), a teaching approach that uses clear structure, immediate feedback, and high engagement to make complex processes like financial modeling more accessible.
At Heidelberg, Drew is especially eager to grow the Finance program.
“Heidelberg offers a unique combination of academic excellence, a beautiful campus, and an incredible faculty who are truly team-oriented,” he said. “The opportunity to build something impactful here and help students gain a competitive edge in their careers is what excites me most.”
Outside the classroom, Drew is a husband, father of seven, and youth sports coach for football, basketball, and baseball. He also runs a podcast and YouTube channel that blends finance, economics, and faith, and enjoys DIY projects at home.
He expects his classes to be highly interactive, with students actively engaging and applying concepts in real time. In return, students can expect him to be prepared, accessible, and invested in their success. His goal is not only to teach financial concepts, but also to equip students with skills that build confidence and curiosity for the world beyond Heidelberg.
When it comes to advice, Drew points to a lesson from basketball coach Rick Pitino.
“The best advice I’ve ever received came from Rick Pitino — not personally, but from one of his books. It’s twofold: first, you need to have the right form or technique; second, you must pair it with an unbeatable work ethic. Being structured while maintaining relentless effort is the recipe for success,” he said.
