Dear Heidelberg Community,
We are writing to share heartbreaking news. Last evening, the Heidelberg community lost one of its own when first-year student Hermoiney Greenler died in an automobile accident here in Tiffin, claiming the lives of three others, whom we also mourn.
Our campus is deeply saddened by this loss. We ask that you keep Hermoiney’s family, friends, and all who knew her in your thoughts and prayers.
Hermoiney was from Bucyrus, Ohio, and a 2025 graduate of Wynford High School. At Convocation this past fall, President Huntington remarked that among the Class of 2029 was royalty—known to many as the Bratwurst Festival Queen 1st Runner Up. That student was Hermoiney. At Heidelberg, she was pursuing majors in Psychology and Criminology with a minor in Business, and she resided in Brown Hall. She was also a member of our Student Prince community, where she formed meaningful connections and left a lasting impression.
Although her time at Heidelberg was far too short, Hermoiney will be remembered for the light she brought to those around her and the impact she made in our community.
Counselors at the Stoner Health & Counseling Center are available today and through the remainder of the semester to support anyone who may be struggling with this loss. You may call 419-448-2041 or email John Sharp, Assistant Director of Counseling, at jsharp [at] heidelberg.edu (jsharp[at]heidelberg[dot]edu) to speak with someone. Also, Heidelberg has 24/7 tele-counseling support through UWill 833-646-1526, and Seneca County has a Mobile Crisis Support Team. More information can be found online at https://mhsosw.org/mcrt/
In moments like this, the strength of the Heidelberg family becomes especially important. Please take care of yourselves and one another, reach out for support if you need it, and offer compassion to those most affected as they begin to grieve. We will share additional information with the community as soon as it becomes available.
With heavy hearts,
Chris Abrams
