Some of the best college recommendations come from people who have been there. They know the traditions, the friendships, the opportunities, and what it means to be a Student Prince. Now, Heidelberg University alumni have a new way to share that experience – and help another student discover their own Heidelberg story.
Introducing … the Heidelberg Alumni Referral Grant, a new initiative that awards eligible new and transfer undergraduate students a one-time $1,000 grant when they are formally referred to Heidelberg by an eligible alumna or alumnus before enrollment.
For our Opportunity Maker alumni, it’s a great chance to put their Heidelberg pride into action, connect prospective students with their alma mater, and help the next generation of Student Princes find their Sweet Alma Home.
“We want more students to discover Heidelberg, and our alumni can play a powerful role in making that happen,” said Morgan Harrigan ‘09, Executive Director of Admissions, Financial Aid, and Enrollment. “While our Alumni Family Grant is reserved for students whose immediate family member attended Heidelberg, this initiative broadens that reach, giving alumni an opportunity to share their love for their Sweet Alma Home and encourage students in their lives to become part of the Heidelberg family.”
The Alumni Referral Grant complements Heidelberg’s existing Alumni Family Grant, creating a second pathway for alumni to help prospective students discover the Heidelberg experience. While the Alumni Family Grant recognizes students with an immediate family connection to Heidelberg, the new referral grant opens the door for alumni to recommend other students who might thrive at the University.
“Our alumni are often looking for ways to give back to the school that gave so much to them,” said Ashley Helmstetter, vice president of Advancement, Marketing, Alumni, and Community Relations. “The Alumni Referral Grant is a great opportunity to make an impact not only by helping future Student Princes find their higher ed home, just as they did, but also to help their alma mater by facilitating connections with prospective students that may not have happened otherwise.”
Who’s eligible?
The Alumni Referral Grant is available to new and transfer undergraduate students who are formally referred by an eligible Heidelberg alumna or alumnus before enrollment and who enroll at Heidelberg as full-time, degree-seeking students.
To qualify as a referring alum, an individual must have earned a bachelor’s or graduate degree from Heidelberg and must not currently be enrolled in a Heidelberg degree program or employed by the University in any capacity.
The grant is applied to the student’s first-year tuition and packaged as institutional financial aid according to existing financial aid policies and applicable federal Title IV regulations. The program does not provide compensation or incentive payments to alumni or employees.
Help someone find their ’Berg
“We hope our alumni will take advantage of this amazing opportunity to help grow a connection for a future Student Prince by introducing them to the place that they already know and love,” Ashley said.
